Shipwreck Soup

No need to be lost at sea to enjoy this hearty, tasty meal. This soup is sure to satisfy.


  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 ½ cups onion, diced
  • 6 cubes of bouillon
  • 1 ½ cups potato, diced
  • 1 cup carrot, diced
  • 1 cup tomato
  • ½ cup diced celery
  • 1 ½ quarts water
  • ¼ cup rice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 leaf basil
  • 1 cup cabbage, finely cut

Brown meat and onions in pan, stirring with fork to break up meat.
Add onion, bouillon, potato, carrot, celery.
Add meat and onions to water in large pot with bay leaf and basil. Bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Add rice.
Simmer for 45 minutes. Add cabbage, simmer another 45 minutes. Stir frequently.
Serve with grated cheese. Tastes even better the next day.

Pairs well with Semi-dry Riesling and Dry Riesling wines.
