A dark-skinned hybrid grown mainly in the Finger Lakes AVA of the United States. A productive vine, Rougeon produces fruit with a brilliant red hue, making it an ideal blending ingredient, often used for Port blends. However, its susceptibility to both downy and powdery mildew means extra care must be taken in the vineyard.
Varietal Rougeon wines are usually dry, with excellent color and medium body. but some sweet wines can be very nice. Blend with Catawba to create Red Zeppelin.
